If you are paying a general contractor the pricing still ranges greatly depending on the specific location you are building your barndominium. Pricing for a slab vary from location to location based on soil or rock that has to be excavated.

With a general contractor we tell people to budget $100 to $130 per sq ft for the living area.

Is it cheaper to build a barndominium or a regular stick built home?

Some people actually build what looks like a barndominium as a regular stick build. We have customized many of our plans for a stick build. So you can get the low maintenance metal sides, open layout and look of a barndominium with a conventional stick built home.

For those DIY home finishers who will do some of the finish work themselves having a metal building company erect the roof and some or all of the walls provides them a dried in area to work. And often the metal shell will be completely erected in a couple of weeks or less.
