Has anybody else been unable to buy these soups. I tried 5 major supermarkets yesterday and none of them were stocking them any more . I am baffled. I have been using them for some very successful recipes all my married life. I cannot imagine that they have gone out of business. It is SO annoying.

Apparently it’s being rebranded as Batchelors condensed soup from March.as Premier the owners who also own OXO and Fray Bentos think it’s falling sales is due to its customers having an older demographic and the rebranding will expose it to a younger wider audience base. That could be why there are supply problems I guess. I use the mushroom one for my tuna casserole.

Haha. The one that ‘disappears’ here is minestrone so if I see it I grab a couple of tins. That’s the only tinned soup I get these days.

My small stash of mushroom and celery soups is fast disappearing.
Good to hear they may reappear next year. A tuna fish bake essential ingredient or chicken pie filling.
I have found .Waitrose essential mushroom soup very good...although not condensed. And is 75p.

I think of them as "older person" soups - how interesting that is the demographic! My parents bought them fairly often I think to use in things.
The only person I know who buys them regularly is my mother-in-law who is 99. I occasionally (maybe once a year) buy the mushroom as a lazy base for pasta - but my children don't buy any of them.

I have two recipes, one old, one quite recent, that require a can of condensed chicken soup.

I have been looking for the chicken soup for weeks in all the supermarkets near me. But now I know I'll try B&M or Home Bargains. Weird I didn't think it was not selling now. I use it all the time in loads of recipes.

They are so useful as bases, always get them in if I see them.

I also had problems finding a tin of condensed mushroom soup for a chicken and mushroom pie recipe. Tried all the big supermarkets and was told by Waitrose, who advertise it on their website, that they are no longer stocking it. Couldn’t find any small cans of Heinz either.
Very useful to know about Home Bargains and B&M and to hear the reason it’s no longer on general sale tanith.

Would vegetarian gravy granules perhaps be a reasonable substitute? You could make it up as thick as you wish - as thick as condensed soup?

When you put them in recipes, do you dilute them?

Cid24 the answer is, that it depends. Like any casserole or stew, or dish with sauce you dilute or don't dilute according to the consistency of sauce you want.
