Why is Smuckers closing? ›

The company first announced plans in December to close the plant. In a news release at the time, it said the Ripon facility was closing "to further optimize operations" and that production would be consolidated at the company's plant in Orrville, Ohio.

Most of our fruit spreads and ice cream toppings have a shelf life of 24 months from the date of production. However, in order to obtain best color and flavour of our products, we do recommend consuming them within one year of the purchase date.
