There will be plenty of local high school football played before the official start of the 2024 regular season, as the Charleston area is home to four prep jamborees in August.
Four sites will involve 35 local teams, from both public and private schools. Charleston Southern, Berkeley and Ashley Ridge high schools and Charleston County District 2 Stadium will serve as the event locations.
First on the slate is the 1team1cause/Wake Up Carolina showcase, set for August 10 at Charleston Southern’s Buccaneer Field.
Seven teams will compete, with five teams getting two quarters of scrimmage. Schools include Northside Christian of Lexington, Bethesda Academy from Savannah, First Baptist, St. John’s Christian and Pinewood Prep. Two schools, Northwood Academy and Beaufort Academy, will play a four-quarter game to close out the evening. The football begins at 6 p.m.
Three other events are slated for Aug. 16.
Wando’s District 2 stadium is host to the Dave Spurlock CCSD football jamboree, which will include 12 area schools and six one-quarter scrimmages. Schools involved include Academic Magnet, North Charleston, Bishop England, Wando, Military Magnet, Burke, West Ashley, Baptist Hill, St. John’s, Stall, James Island and Lucy Beckham. Games begin at 5:30 p.m.
Ashley Ridge will host an expanded version of the Dorchester County Showdown, which grows from four teams to 10 schools in one-quarter scrimmages. Participating schools include Branchville, Dorchester Academy, Woodland, Bluffton, Summerville, Aiken, Fort Dorchester, Oceanside Collegiate, Ashley Ridge and Beaufort. Action begins at 7 p.m.
The Moncks Corner Lion’s Club jamboree at Berkeley High School will have six schools, with teams playing two quarters. Schools include Philip Simmons, Stratford, Berkeley, Timberland, Andrews and Goose Creek. Games begin at 6 p.m.
