Looking forward to applying this as soon as my first game is finished. Need to up the difficulty a bit - I took Aspec's recommended 'first game' difficulty options, and it's been a cakewalk in the end game. I was worried about an ancient/fallen empire with half a dozen 250K fleets, but they didn't become the crisis (I found the Head of Zarquon or something similar which meant they had to leave me alone.) A large but much, much weaker empire on the far side from me became the Crisis, and it's just a bit of drudgery to mop them up.
A better UI would be awesome - now that I've got dozens of planets and stations, managing them is a pain. The mechanics of the game seem fine, though ground invasion is weak - my Titans and Juggernaughts should be able to transport ground troops.
Fun game overall - very much enjoying the purchase. I've gone 30 years of PC gaming without getting into 4X - tried a few, but I was always more attracted to RTS, starting with the great Dune 2. Stellaris plays almost like an RTS, but with a lot more depth.
There are mods that let you add troop modules to combat ships, and mods that give transport ships guns and defenses.
New Ship Classes is a *must-have*, for me. But then you need mods to add said ship classes and modules to the AI empires, or it is absolutely too easy. Bit of a rabbit-hole for sure.
