Sometimes you just need a drink that brings warmth and comfort while also allows you to let loose and distress. THIS is that drink. I have always been a girl that will occasionally sip Bailey’s on the rocks, but when its super cold outside, I need something that’ll warm my hands and body. This hot chocolate is deliciously rich and creamy and the Irish cream just takes it to the next level. Top with marsh mellows, whipped cream hot caramel or chocolate sauce.

Which alcohols mix well with chocolate?

There are a ton of option at our disposal to use with chocolate. With the warm, creamy substance that this drink is made up with, I found vodka and Baileys tastes delicious. You could always use Kahula in the Baileys place and substitute in whiskey or rum instead of vodka. There are many suitable options that pair well with a chocolate-flavored beverage.

Can I substitute any of the ingredients?

Sometimes having all the ingredients one needs on hand just doesn’t work out! In this recipe, I find whole milk makes a huge difference! I would only go up in fat, with half and half or heavy whipping cream, instead of down to 1% or skim milk. You want it rich and cream. If you don’t like dark chocolate, milk chocolate substitutes are delicious!

Next, slowly add the milk 1 cup at a time, stirring and combining as you go. Slowly heat on medium heat, but do not bring to a boil. You don’t want to scorch or burn the drink.

I have tried this drink with a few other variations. You can substitute in Kahlua for a less sweet, heavier taste or use Rumchata for a slightly sweeter, thinner consistency. Both alternatives are delicious! It will really just comes down to your personal preference. Since I find Bailey’s is a happy medium between those two, that’s what I typically lean towards.
