The Tiktok Ramen Recipe with Egg and Everything but the Bagel (2024)

Have you seen the viral TikTok ramen recipe that everyone is making?

Is it really that good and worth a try?

The Tiktok Ramen Recipe with Egg and Everything but the Bagel (1)

The short answer is yes! You have got to try the TikTok Ramen with Everything But the Bagel Seasoning from Trader Joe’s.

What is TikTok Ramen

TikTok Ramen is basically instant noodles sans the seasoning packet. Instead, TikTok Ramen calls for making a sauce instead of a soup comprised of garlic, butter, soy sauce, and a few other items.

Now as a Chinese person with tons of Korean friends, this is nothing new. I’ve seen my Korean friends do this WITH the seasoning packet from the ramen. They just add less water and it’s more of a sauce. I mean they even sell ramen that’s meant to be eaten this way at the Korean grocery stores.

I’ve also seen a variation of this in a Chinese movie about a food critic. According to him the best way to prepare ramen is to boil the noodles, drain it, toss in the seasoning packet, THEN add freshly boiled water and let sit for 30 seconds. And yes that method was also life-changing.

What Kind of Ramen Should I Use

It really doesn’t matter what kind of ramen you use, you can use any brand you like. I used Neoguri because that’s what we had on hand and I like the thicker noodles.

But this will work with regular Top Ramen too.

What If I Don’t Have Ramen

Since you are not using the seasoning packet that comes with the ramen, you can use any noodles you want for TikTok Ramen.

Spaghetti noodles make a good substitute for TikTok Ramen if you don’t have ramen noodles. Or any Asian-style noodles will work too.

I actually often use spaghetti noodles for Chinese Noodle recipes because you really can’t tell the difference. The trick is to cook it at medium heat for a minute or 2 longer than the package instructions. You DON’T want that bite in the middle for Asian noodle dishes as you would for Italian pasta dishes.

Do I Need to Use Butter for TikTok Ramen

You do not need to use butter for TikTok Ramen, you can substitute it with sesame oil if you want. I actually saw a variation of this on TikTok where the person used sesame oil.

Though butter and soy sauce do make an incredible combination! The richness of the butter and the umami of the soy sauce pair perfectly. If you’ve never had butter and soy sauce rice, you have to try it!

When Do I Add The Egg for TikTok Ramen

Adding the egg for TikTok Ramen seems a bit tricky because I’ve seen variations of this. You can either scramble the egg first, then add the ramen noodles or put the ramen noodles in first then the egg and scramble.

A third method is to add the ramen noodles, push them to the side, then scramble the egg on the other side of the pan, then mix.

The fourth variation is my own. Personally, I like the egg NOT scrambled but slightly cooked so the egg yolk is still undone, then break the egg yolk and mix it in once I serve the TikTok Ramen. The egg yolk becomes more of a sauce and adds so much more richness this way.

This method is similar to how they make dry ramen in a Japanese anime!

Why Everything But The Bagel Seasoning on Ramen?

Adding Everything But The Bagel Seasoning on top of ramen didn’t make any sense to me when I first saw TikTok Ramen.

But I understand why it’s used! The ingredients!! The seasoning contains garlic and onion which are pretty popular ingredients in ramen seasoning packets, but without all the MSG and other additives.

Other ingredients like black and white sesame seeds are also popular garnishes in Asian cooking. The poppy seeds threw me for a loop though, but they do add some nice flavor!

TikTok Ramen Variations

When I first saw TikTok Ramen it immediately reminded me of a Chinese noodle recipe I saw on TikTok.

In this variation, you all the ingredients into one bowl, then heat up the oil until smoking and pour it over the noodles and flavorings. This basically flash fries everything and brings out all the flavors. You can do this too with TikTok Ramen, but don’t use butter! Either use sesame oil or a neutral-tasting oil.

The butter will either burn or not get hot enough to bring out the seasoning flavors.

If you are looking for more variations for making your ramen check out this video from Aaron and Claire. Some of their methods for cooking ramen totally remind me of TikTok Ramen but even BETTER!!

Definitely try out their methods if you want to take your TikTok Ramen to the next level.

Vegan and Gluten Free TikTok Ramen

You can totally make this vegan by using sesame oil instead of butter, and omitting the egg!

If you want a gluten-free TikTok Ramen, simply use rice noodles instead, or the dry spaghetti noodles I mentioned earlier and use a gluten-free soy sauce.

I’ve not personally tried this with rice noodles but I would say to use a pho-style noodle instead of the skinny “rice stick” noodles. Those are just too thin!

TikTok Ramen Ingredients

The Tiktok Ramen Recipe with Egg and Everything but the Bagel (5)

Ramen or Any Noodles – Use any ramen you have or even substitute with spaghetti noodles.

Butter – Kerigold is my favorite butter to use! Since butter is a main ingredient in TikTok Ramen I would use higher grade butter.

Minced Garlic – I find that I can never use too much garlic. If are worried use a bit less.

Red Pepper Flakes – If you don’t want it to be spicey you can omit this.

Brown Sugar – The sweetness balances out the saltiness of the soy sauce. I tend to prefer my foods more savory than sweet, so I always use a bit less sugar.

Soy Sauce – This is where all the savory flavor comes from.

Egg – Every Asian person knows you cannot have instant noodles WITHOUT an egg!

Everything But The Bagel Seasoning – Totally a surprise ingredient and what makes TikTok Ramen so delicious!
